My current work as with all my art can be enjoyed purely aesthetically. My first criterion for any art is that it looks cool. This series, in particular, has additional layers of interest.

As I mature my passion for creatures, rocks, trees, wind and water never waver. My understanding of how individual elements in nature depend on one another continues to becomes more meaningful and enrich my work. How each intricate detail of a grass plant flower holds an integral relationship to the steady passing of air through my own lungs as well and bison lung.

In my current series, still in progress, the paintings may appear to have one creature held aloft but in reality one cannot be, at all, without the whole. The subjects in these works are the ecosystems.

There are several criteria for inclusion into this current work. There must be one or more elements in the painting that fall into the federal endangered species list. In my research for this series, I found that each of these creatures needs a vast uninterrupted space for annual migration patterns to acquire key needs for maintenance of species. They are all inter-related to a vast array of other elements and species indigenous to their specific ecosystem. Typically these creatures do not thrive within or adjacent to encroaching human populations. In some of the paintings of this series, I portray the ecosystem as it would function without any interference. In others, I have added assemblage pieces (see process) that allude to outside influences, helpful and/or destructive.

Long leaf pine forests have been vastly reduced from their indiginious territory covering the entire South east from Alabama and Mississippi all the way to the coast. With fire suppression these vast tracts of wild land have been reduced to smaller and smaller patches. If you're lucky you may see one of these patches from your window.
